Smoking time in Bac Ha

47 copies
Smoking Time was Réhahn’s first photograph to be published in National Geographic and was also given the honor of being selected as Editor’s Choice. It was taken in the colourful Bac Ha Market in Lao Cai province. This particular Sunday dozens of tribes from the North of Vietnam had come together to barter, share food and smoke water pipes. The moody colors and wafting smoke in this portrait create an air of mystery that offsets the expression of pure enjoyment on this man’s face.
